Quantize
Quantize is a game about the scientific process. But it’s not about science in the real world, but more about a game where the answers aren’t known in advance.
The first game I remember with a research component to it is Civilization. And it was amazing-you could invent Writing and Bridges and Nukes. But almost 30 years later, and that’s basically how research in strategy games still works.
What I want is a research system where the results are not known, at least not exactly. So sticking with Civ, one early communication technology is the Alphabet. In Quantize, you will be able to research a communication technology, and you could name that technology Alphabet. But the exact properties will be determined by the researcher attributes, the player actions, and the current game state.
It’s kind of like an engine for procedural generation of a tech tree.
